Lower School

The elementary years are orchestrated with great intention at Hillsdale Christian Academy. Our teachers are not only highly trained professionals, but also godly Christians who are dedicated to the success of their students to develop spiritually, socially, emotionally, and academically. While training students spiritually, Hillsdale Christian Academy holds the highest standards of academic rigor for the future success of each student.

One of the goals of Hillsdale Christian Academy is to come alongside the family and train children to love and serve God. Through daily Bible classes and weekly chapel services students learn about Christian character through specific Bible truths and topics that are age-appropriate and applicable.

What Separates Us

Chapel

Students have chapel once a week with various speakers from our staff and faculty. This time of singing, teaching and interaction around the Word of God gives another outlet for students to hear truths to help them learn and grow in the Lord.

Fine Arts Focus

Hillsdale Christian Academy offers various opportunities for growth beyond the academic classroom to expand the fine arts horizon of our students.

Goal Oriented

HCA exists for the total training of each student: mentally (academically), socially, physically, and most of all, spiritually.  Each teacher works intensely and rigorously through the curriculum to prepare each student for today and for their future.

Our Curriculum

In the elementary grades at Hillsdale Christian Academy, students master the foundational skills that are necessary to support further learning. As they progress through the upper elementary grades, they begin applying those skills and learn to think critically and work collaboratively. HCA’s methods facilitate active and engaged learners who are prepared to succeed in middle school and beyond.

Core Subjects

Hillsdale Christian Academy’s lower school teaches core subjects at every grade level: Biblical instruction, mathematics, history, reading, language arts, and science.

Students in Kindergarten through Grade 2 are taught solid phonics rules introduced in our HCA Preschool. Proficiency in these rules develops excellent reading skills. Students continue to build language skills by accurately identifying parts of speech and learning to write using proper sentence structure.

All elementary students are taught historical facts and a proper understanding of our nation and the world. We partner elementary school students’ study of history with the study of geography. Over the course of their elementary years, students will be taken from simple math concepts into algebraic expressions and geometric concepts. Sound understanding of the scientific method and how our Designer God created the world for our enjoyment rounds out our scientific instruction.

Additional Programs

To enrich our students’ education, HCA offers special classes that include Physical Education, Band, Music / Choir, Art, and Foreign language.

Hillsdale Christian Academy develops well-rounded students by offering opportunities to learn and grow outside of the classroom. For each student at HCA, we aspire to not only lay a solid spiritual foundation, but to also inspire our students to become responsible, to be self-motivated, and to cultivate a passion for lifelong learning in the classroom and on their own.

All of our students participate in our Annual Christmas and Spring Programs, highlighting the musical concepts they have learned throughout the year. Grade 4 and 5 students have the opportunity to participate in the SSACS Fine Arts Competition each Spring in the areas of speech, music, and art.

Our Philosophy

Luke 2:52 reads, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” This “whole-body” endeavor of educating and encouraging your child to greatness is a direct result of the example set up for us in the Word of God. What we do at HCA will reflect each of these components. Wisdom: Knowledge that is applied to life’s circumstances. Stature: Healthy and growing bodies that are respected by others and ourselves. Favor with God: Knowing who God is and how your child can have a relationship with Him. Favor with Man: Getting along with one another in love.
